A local firm. A modern way of working.

Hudson Conway has been part of Cheltenham's business community since 2005: small enough to know you, qualified enough to handle whatever the numbers bring.

Our story

Hudson Conway (Gloucestershire) Ltd was established in 2005 with a simple idea: good accountancy is not about producing more paperwork. It is about giving somebody the confidence to make a decision.

That idea has outlasted spreadsheets, tax rules and several versions of the self-assessment form. The firm is still independent, still in Cheltenham and still small enough that the person who knows your name also knows your accounts.

Today the firm is led by Angela Munn, who brings a rare mix of qualifications to a practice like this: a doctorate, chartered tax status and full membership of the Association of Accounting Technicians. In plain terms, she has the technical depth for the complicated questions and the patience to explain the simple ones.

What we believe

  1. You are not a file number. A good accountant remembers the context: the family, the plans, the year that did not go to plan. That context is usually where the useful advice lives.
  2. Clarity is part of the service. A set of accounts nobody understands has done half its job. We explain what the figures mean, what has changed and what to do next.
  3. Small is a strength. You get continuity, direct access and a conversation rather than a ticket number. Nothing gets lost between departments because there is only one department.
  4. Tax should never be a surprise. Planning happens during the year, not in a rush at the end. We would rather have the awkward conversation early than the expensive one late.

How we work

  • We answer the question you actually asked. If there is a bigger issue underneath it, we will mention that too - but we will not bury the answer in jargon.
  • We agree the fee first. A written scope, a clear price and a named person. No meter running quietly in the background.
  • We use the tools that fit you. Cloud accounting, a simple spreadsheet or a shoebox of receipts: we start with what you have and improve it at a pace that works.
  • We keep your records properly. Confidentiality is not a policy we wrote for the website; it is the baseline of being allowed to look after somebody's affairs.

Beyond the numbers

Cheltenham is a town of small businesses, makers, independent shops and people who would rather do something of their own than something familiar. It is a good place to run a firm like this, and it has shaped the way we work: locally, personally and without much interest in being the biggest.

We work with clients across Gloucestershire and the rest of the UK. The postcode changes; the approach does not.
