Accounts & bookkeeping

Clear, up-to-date books and year-end accounts, so you always know where you stand and what to do next.

The calmest way to keep on top of the numbers

Good books do more than satisfy Companies House or HMRC. They tell you whether the month was as good as it felt, which customers are paying late and whether the price you charge actually covers the work.

We can take the whole job off your desk or work alongside the bookkeeper you already have. Either way, the aim is the same: records you can trust, finished on time, with somebody who will explain what they mean.

Who it helps

  • Sole traders who would rather spend the evening with their family than with a bank statement.
  • Partnerships that need the profit shares and the year-end figures to add up without a debate.
  • Limited companies that want statutory accounts prepared properly and filed on time.
  • Growing businesses that need management accounts during the year, not just a history lesson at the end of it.

What is included

  • Bookkeeping to a monthly or quarterly rhythm, with sales, purchases and expenses recorded properly.
  • Bank and card reconciliations so every figure has a home and nothing is quietly missing.
  • Year-end statutory accounts prepared for filing and, where relevant, for Companies House.
  • Management accounts with a short, readable commentary on what the numbers are doing.
  • VAT returns where they sit naturally with the bookkeeping - or as a separate service.
  • A conversation about the figures, not just a download link. If something needs your attention, we will say so.

How it works

  1. A look at what you have. We start with your current records, your software and the way you actually work. There is no judgement if the answer is "a carrier bag of receipts".
  2. A sensible rhythm. Monthly, quarterly or annual - we agree a schedule that keeps the work manageable and the information useful.
  3. The work gets done. You answer the occasional question, we do the rest and tell you early if anything is missing.
  4. You get the picture. Accounts, a short explanation and a clear list of anything that needs a decision.

A question we hear often

  • Do I have to use cloud accounting? No. It usually makes life easier, but the right answer is whatever you will actually keep up to date. We are happy to work with a spreadsheet if that is the honest answer for now.
  • Can you take over partway through the year? Yes. We will reconcile what has already been done, agree the cut-off and carry on from there.
  • My records are in a mess. Will you think less of me? Not for a second. Sorting out a difficult year is a normal part of the job, and you are not the first person to arrive with a shoebox.
