The firm he built
Brian Sloan founded Hudson Conway in 2010 with a simple belief: good accountancy starts with knowing the person in front of you. He still works in the business alongside Angela today.
He built the firm around that idea. The relationships he made are personal ones, and many of those clients are still with the firm today. Clients speak warmly of Brian - of his patience, his straight answers and the fact that he knows the person behind the paperwork.
That remains the measure of how we work: take the time to understand what somebody is trying to do, explain it plainly, and never make them feel like a small account.
The standard he set
- Know the person, not just the file. The family, the plans and the year that did not go to plan are usually where the useful advice lives.
- Answer the question you were asked. Start with the answer, then explain the reason, and leave the jargon out unless it earns its place.
- Do the small things properly. The accounts, the records and the deadlines are not the dull part of the job. They are what everything else rests on.
- Stay for the long term. A good accountant remembers the history, so a client never has to explain their own business to a stranger.
Brian and Angela still work alongside each other. The firm is still independent, still in Cheltenham and still small enough to know its clients by name.
